Hi Tiffany,

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you. Thanks so much for the advice for my friend at work. He continued his HIT training and added a long run or two into his program. He lost 26lbs and lost 8% bodyfat in 12 weeks. He appreciated your advice.

No baby on the way yet. I'm hoping my body has recovered and I will have one on the way soon. I've been off my supplements (L-Glutamine & Whey) for 7 months. I have been active with my cardio and some weight training. I was thinking about adding Whey protein powder back into my program since it's taking a while to get pregnant. It seems like most brands have other ingredients added into them. Do you or any of your friends have any advice on what is safe and healthy to take while trying to get pregnant & then afterwards once you are pregnant? I have been trying to keep things as natural as possible...but I don't want to get burned out on my natural proteins (chicken, eggs, turkey, etc). Any advice is appreciated....

Thanks so much for everything. I hope all is well with you.

Kim

Kim-

Got your message re: your friend deciding to drink more water since he has been stuck at 197lbs ! I HOPE this doesn't mean he is trying to starve himself and is only drinking more water to fill him up!!! Remember, he needs to drink lots of water and eat every 2 1/2- 3 hours to keep his metobilism going.

Kim-

First, please tell your friend Congratulations on his body transformation so far! Make sure he knows that muscle weighs more than fat and losing pounds on the scale does not mean he lost body fat. The more lean muscle he is able to maintain and/or build the more calories he is able to burn 24 hours a day. (One pound of muscle burns about ten calories a day, a pound of fat about three calories). It's great he has incorporated weight training with cardio training and I hope he is eating according to his energy and protein requirements needed for training and his daily activities.

The cardio question is not as simple as you may think. I had put you on a cardio program that was prescribed for YOU, and would not recommend him to do the same program, especially since he is concerned with his bad knees. The type of cardio I'd prescribe for him depends on his calorie/protein/carb intake, time of day he's doing his cardio, fitness level, resting heart rate, etc. You mentioned someone recommended he should "walk on the treadmill at an incline of 15 for 45 minutes at speed 3.5 miles". This workout may not be right for him if he is unable to reach his optimal fat burning zone. With his other type of training, his heart rate may be going too high where he is actually burning muscle instead of fat.

His fat burning heart rate zone is 128-164 beats per minute (Assuming his resting heart rate is average for a 37 year old male). I'd recommend he constantly switch up his workout program and try sprint intervals at 30-60 seconds at a time. If he likes doing 3 minutes run/ 2 minutes walking that's fine, but he should try being in his higher intensity zone of 145-160 beats per minute for at least 30 minutes straight . (Please keep in mind that this is a general recommendation for his cardio training since I don't know his medical background or the necessary info. I mentioned earlier.) Research has proven that high intensity workouts burns fat more efficiently than low-intensity exercise (up to 50% more efficiently.) It also speeds up your metabolism for hours during the day and the calories will continue to "burn off". (Please keep in mind that a lower heart rat of 130's is recommended if he is concerned about maintaining lean muscle.)

Please let us know how much he ended up losing and if he wins his contest. I would love to meet and work with him in the future more if he has the desire to continue with his training and or enter the Colorado State Body Transformation Challenge which ends August 4th, 2006!

Kim- let us know how you are doing? Baby on the way? Hope you are feeling fit and healthy with your pregnancy.

Tif

Who will drop the most? Doug H. vs. Robert G.
« Result #10 on Mar 3, 2006, 4:06am »

Congratulations to Doug H. who just started on his nutrition and exercise program on March 1st!

Robert G. & Doug H. are in a friendly competition to see who can lose the most body fat% in the next few months. An all expense paid trip to Las Vegas is at stake.

"Before" pictures & measurements have been officially recorded.

Who do you think will lose the most body fat & weight? I know Robert has been consistent with his training sessions with trainer, Phillip Jones and is highly motivated by competition. I also heard Doug has cleaned up his diet and has even given up alcohol. He started off this competition with a bang by scheduling workout sessions with a BODY Statement trainer 6am every morning this week!

Good luck to both of you! I will keep everyone posted on their progress here in the upcoming days & weeks.
